New Home for the roamantics

We’ve got a new site! After what feels like the longest week ever, a lot of reading and research, emails, 3 failed theme attempts, at least ten lengthy calls to our new web host, and a lot of futzing and nail-biting, we’re (you’re!) finally here- phew!

While I set up our wordpress.com site in July 2009, purchased domain names, and joined twitter, I (Lorna) really didn’t start blogging (or tweeting) until this July.  I’m not a technophobe (I’m a filmmaker) but I learned quickly that technical ability in one arena, doesn’t necessarily translate to another 😉

where we've come from

It’s been a steep learning curve on so many counts and even things that may seem basic to others were (and still are) new to me.  Creating posts, engaging in social media beyond Facebook, and now designing our own site- albeit with a theme- were first-time experiences.  I’ve relied a lot on and am really grateful for my good friend Sara Keagle (The Flying Pinto) and new friends I’ve made in the online travel community.  I’m also floored by the family and friends who  joined Facebook and/or Twitter all for the sole purpose of supporting us.  THANK YOU!

And now I’m really excited to have this new realm in which to share our roam antics! We have 9+ shared years of some pretty great travel experiences, and even more individually, to write about & show you.

Please poke around, make comments, subscribe, offer suggestions on how to improve the site, and if we’re not already friends in every online way possible, let’s do it! So, what do you think?

  1. Congratulations! I’ve so been there. I moved onto my own server at the beginning of this year and I’ve never felt more lost. I (stupidly) keep two blogs which I moved over from Blogger to WP.org, and it is taking me so long to get them how I’d like. HTML, CSS, PHP…what language is this?! Certainly not mine. Your efforts look fantastic, by the way.

    1. thanks so much marie! that feels really great to hear 🙂 i’m with you- i just started my first rss google reader acct. and first feed this week- so much to learn! maybe if we approach it with the same sense of
adventure as discovering a new culture it’ll feel more exciting/minimize frustration- ha ha. i should mention that you’d never know it from looking at your site 🙂

  2. The blog looks great! Awesome job! I have totally been there. Whenever I have to update the theme I just hold my breath – it is always a nightmare.
